How to create new Sales/Purchase Price List lines with Edit in Excel

2 min read

The new “Edit in Excel” functionality for the Sales and Purchase Price List has garnered a lot of attention. Many users are enthusiastic about the ability to quickly change and add entries right from Excel.

Yet, some have noticed that it seems to allow only editing of existing rows rather than adding completely new ones. So, here are two workarounds.

Workaround #1: Add first Primary Keys

1. Adding New Lines by Extending Primary Keys (PK’s): Instead of inserting a new entry in Excel with all the data, new entries should only have primary key values. This method ensures that every new row is uniquely identified, preventing any conflicts with existing data.

2. Publishing the Changes: Once you’ve added your new lines with the primary keys appropriately, you must “Publish” these changes. Publishing acts as a commit step, ensuring that your Excel modifications are correctly reflected in the central Sales or Purchase Price List. Think of this stage as saving a draft that is ready for synchronization.

3. Refreshing Data: After publishing, the next step is to refresh your data. Refreshing updates the Excel view with the latest data from the database. This guarantees that the new rows, alongside any edits, are properly integrated and visible for further modifications or additions.

4. Adding More Information: With the new rows now part of your dataset, you can continue adding details or making any further edits as needed.

Workaround #2: Creating first Price List with Suggest Prices

An alternate approach avoids manual primary key adjustments altogether by leveraging the built-in “Suggest Prices” functionality. This method lets you create new lines proactively before updating them.

1. Initiate the Suggest Prices Process: Navigate to your Sales or Purchase Price List and click on the Suggest Prices option. This feature is designed to help you prepare your price list with recommended lines.

2. Now, you can open it in Excel and adjust the lines normally.

Since, you are only updating the lines, everything will work as charm!

I hope this post clarifies the process of how you can still add new lines from the Excel of Sales or Purchase Price List. With this, you can achieve the desired outcome. It’s not perfect, but it can still do the work! 🚀
