If you’ve ever stared at a slow Business Central page, waited too long for a report to render, or wondered why a simple action takes seconds instead of milliseconds, then this workshop is for you!

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be running AL Performance Bootcamp: Level Up Your Code workshop at BCTechDays 2026, and I want to tell you exactly why you should sign up.

What Is This Workshop?

This isn’t a slide deck. This isn’t a lecture you’ll half-listen to while checking your phone.

This is a hands-on performance workout for your AL code.

You’ll step into the shoes of a Business Central developer inheriting a real-world application that’s riddled with performance pitfalls, intentionally bad code, and designed to challenge you. From there, we’ll work through it together, level by level, until the code is clean, fast, and production-ready.

The Bootcamp Levels

Level 1 — Spot the Pitfalls

Before you can fix a problem, you have to see it. We’ll open up the codebase and start identifying the usual suspects: outdated patterns, inefficient loops, misused table access types, and the subtle mistakes that developers make every day without realizing the cost.

Level 2 — Measure the Impact

Theory only gets you so far. We’ll run the code, pull up SQL queries, and watch what actually happens inside Business Central when poor decisions are made. Numbers don’t lie, and seeing the difference between an optimized and an unoptimized query is eye-opening.

Level 3 — Refactor & Optimize

Now it’s time to get your hands dirty. We’ll rewrite the code together, applying modern guidelines and current best practices. You’ll validate each improvement with practical tests and see the results in real time.

Level 4 — Embrace Best Practices

The final level is about expanding your toolkit. We’ll explore new patterns and often-overlooked techniques that separate average AL code from code that’s ready for production at scale. These are the habits that will follow you back to your real projects.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is built for AL developers who:

  • Work on Business Central extensions (ISV or customer projects)
  • Have hit a wall with slow code and don’t know where to start
  • Want to understand what’s happening at the SQL layer when AL code runs
  • Are tired of guessing and want a structured, proven approach to performance

Whether you’re mid-level or experienced, there will be something here to challenge you and sharpen your edge.

Why Performance Matters More Than Ever

Business Central is being deployed at scale, with larger datasets, heavier workloads, and more concurrent users. The gap between well-written and poorly-written AL code is no longer just a code quality issue. It’s a business issue.

Customers notice slow applications. Upgrades get blocked by performance regressions. The cost of ignoring performance in AL is going up.

And then there’s the new trend in the room: AI is writing more and more of our code.

GitHub Copilot, agents, and AI-assisted development tools are becoming a natural part of the AL developer’s workflow. That’s a good thing, but it comes with a catch. AI generates code that works. It doesn’t always generate code that performs. The code compiles. The tests pass. And then production slows to a crawl.

This is the new reality: you are the last line of defense. When AI writes the code, you need to know what to look for. You need to be able to read it critically, spot the inefficiencies, and understand what’s happening at the SQL layer, because the AI doesn’t run your production database. You do.

Performance knowledge isn’t becoming less relevant in the age of AI. It’s becoming more important. The developer who understands performance is the one who can guide AI tools effectively, review generated code with confidence, and catch problems before they reach customers.

This workshop gives you the knowledge and the muscle memory to write fast code from the start, and to recognize slow code no matter who, or what, wrote it.

Come Prepared

Bring your laptop. Bring your curiosity. Be ready to code, refactor, and push through the levels.

This is not passive learning. It’s a bootcamp, and you’ll leave with hands-on experience, a deeper understanding of what happens behind the scenes in Business Central, and a toolkit of best practices you can apply immediately.

Seats Are Limited — Don’t Miss Out

Workshop spots are limited, and they will fill up fast. This is your chance to invest a day into skills that will pay off on every AL project you work on going forward.

Grab your ticket today and secure your spot before it’s gone. Don’t let this be the workshop you wished you’d signed up for.
